Baseball Team Drops Tough One at COD
The MSJC baseball team lost Thursday 3-2 at College of the Desert in the second game of a three game series with the Roadrunners.
Desert jumped out on top early scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning. After the first, Eagle starting pitcher Miguel Navarro settled in and shut down the Roadrunner offense until the seventh. MSJC came back to tie the game with single runs in the top of the fourth and top of the sixth. Vince Canales drove in both runs for the Eagles with an RBI single in the sixth and a run scoring sacrifice fly in the fourth.
The Roadrunners scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh on a bases loaded infield single to take the lead for good at 3-2. Navarro finished the day throwing 7 innings allowing just 3 earned runs while striking out 8. Chris Borst and Justin Robinson combined to throw a scoreless eighth inning in relief. Steven Chagolla was 3 for 4 at the plate for MSJC and added a stolen base.
The loss drops MSJC to 13-15 overall and 9-8 in the Foothill Conference while Desert improved to 15-15 and 12-8. The two teams will complete the three game series on Saturday when MSJC hosts Desert at 12 pm.
