The MSJC baseball team scored four runs in the top of the second inning and never looked back on Tuesday as they defeated Imperial Valley 18-10 in Imperial.
Dom des Vigne, Zach Fyfe, Kyle Mead, and Markalexander Gamo each drove in a run in the top of the second to give MSJC a 4-0 lead early. IVC would counter with three in the bottom of the second to make it 4-3, but then the Eagles scored 9 unanswered runs over the next five and a half innings to turn the game into a route. The Eagles scored one in the third, three in the fourth, 1 in the seventh, four in the eighth, and five in the ninth on their way to the easy victory.
Gamo and Manny Mendoza both finished the day with a game high 3 RBIs a piece while, des Vigne, Mead, and Jeremy Schreiber each had two RBIs. MSJC collected 19 hits led by Mead who had four singles on the day. Zac Tapia and Sean Sanders handled the pitching duties for the Eagles with Tapia earning the win going 7 and 2/3 innings allowing 6 runs on 7 hits, he struck out 7. Sanders came in to pitch the final 1 and 1/3.
The win moved the Eagles record to 13-15 on the season and evened their Pacific Coast Athletic Conference mark at 8-8. The same two teams will play again on Thursday when MSJC hosts IVC at 2 pm.
