Baseball Team Stays Hot; Wins Fifth Straight

The MSJC baseball team won their fifth straight game on Tuesday as they defeated visiting Chaffey College 10-8 to move back to the .500 mark on the season.

The Eagles fell behind 4-1 and 5-2 , before the offense took center stage for MSJC with a three run bottom of the fifth and a four run bottom of the sixth to secure the victory.  Chase Phillips had a big day with 4 RBIs for MSJC including three driven in during the decisive 5th and 6th innings.  Phillips finished the day going 3 for 5 with a triple.  Johnny Armenta also went 3 for 5 while driving in two runs and scoring twice.  Vince Canales had three hits as well, in the victory going 3 for 4 and scoring twice.  The Eagles had 13 hits in all on the day.

Dylan Fisher started the game for the Eagles on the mound and went five innings before giving way to Kevin Pino in the sixth.  Pino picked up the win going 1 and 2/3 innings allowing 3 runs on just one hit.  Brian Roldan went the final 2 and 1/3 to pick up the save.  Roldan allowed no runs on two hits and recorded two strike outs.

The Eagles are now 9-9 on the season and 5-5 in Foothill Conference play.  During their 5 game winning streak the Eagles defeated first place San Bernardino Valley, swept Barstow in a three game series, and now have beaten Chaffey in the opener of a three game set.  MSJC travels to Rancho Cucamonga on Thursday for another game with the Panthers and then finish off the series at home on Saturday.  Thursday's game at Chaffey will begin at 2:30, Saturday's game at MSJC will start at noon.
