Baseball Team Win Opening Day Thriller

The MSJC baseball team won their opening game of the season in dramatic fashion on Tuesday as they defeated #5 Saddleback at home 2-1.

The Eagles scored the winning run in the bottom of the ninth when Markalexander Gamo hit a laser to first base that was mishandled by the Gauchos first baseman scoring Johnny Walls from third. Both teams flashed some solid defense throughout the game as the Eagles turned three double plays and the Gauchos only error of the game came on the final play.

Joe Fernandez was the Eagles starting pitcher on the day and went 5 plus innings allowing just 1 earned run and striking out 2, while walking 2.  Sean Sanders threw a scoreless 6th inning for the Eagles and Brian Roldan picked up the win pitching the final three innings.  Gamo, Fernando Fernandez, and Zach Fyfe each picked up two hits in the win for MSJC.

The Eagles 1-0 on the season are back in action on Thursday when they travel to Rio Hondo for a 2 pm.  Rio Hondo is currently ranked #12 in the state.
