The MSJC baseball team won three of four games last week as they took a breather from Foothill Conference action over Spring Break.
The Eagles opened the week with a tough 7-3 loss at previously #1 ranked Santa Ana on Tuesday, but bounced back by defeating Fullerton 3-2 on Thursday. Augie Gallardo pitched a complete game on Thursday allowing just 7 hits over nine innings for the win. Gallardo struck out four and walked just one. Markalexander Gamo, Vince Canales, and Kyle Mead drove a run a piece in the win.
The Eagles then swept a two game series with visiting Taft College on Friday and Saturday in San Jacinto. Friday the Eagles used a late rally to overcome a 7-3 deficit for a come from behind 8-7 win. Trailing 7-4 after six and a half innings MSJC scored one run in the bottom of the seventh and then took the lead with a three run eighth. In the decisive 8th Gamo hit a two run triple and scored on Jeff Ricker's double which turned out to be the game winner. Johnny Armenta had a homerun in the game for the Eagles. Anthony Yanez picked up the pitching victory out to the bullpen going 4 and 1/3 innings and not allowing a run.
MSJC capped the busy week with a 10-5 win over Taft on Saturday behind a strong hitting performance led by Chase Phillips who went 4 for 4 with a triple and a home run. Ricker drove in three runs in the victory while Glenn Nichols and Jeremy Schreiber each drove in two. Hector Flores started the game on the mound for MSJC and picked up the win throwing 6 innings and allowing just two earned runs.
MSJC is now 15-12 on the season and resume Foothill Conference play this week when they play Antelope Valley in a three game series. The Eagles 8-7 in conference play will host AVC on Tuesday and Saturday and will travel to Lancaster Thursday. Tuesday's game will begin at 2:30 while Saturday's game will start at noon.
