Desert Steals One from Eagles
The MSJC baseball team lost a close game to visiting College of the Desert on Wednesday 3-2. The Roadrunners who scored all three of their runs in the top of the third inning stole six bases on the day, four in the same inning, including Jay Coleman's steal of home.
Drew Madrigal bounced back after the third to shut Desert out the rest of the way. Madrigal finished allowing just 5 hits and striking out 11 in 9 innings of work. Mike Barro pitched very well for Desert throwing eight innings of shut out ball, before he allowed a lead off single to Madrigal in the ninth and was replaced by Jack Van Hoon. The first batter Van Hoon faced was Garrett Caldwell who belted a two run homer over the right center field fence. MSJC was able to get two more runners on in the ninth, but couldn't push across the tying run.
The loss dropped MSJC to 26-9 overall and 15-4 in Foothill Conference play. Desert is now 11-5 in conference games. The two teams meet again on Saturday in a doubleheader in Palm Desert beginning at 12 pm. You can hear all the action of the first game on the Eagle Radio Network at msjc.edu on the internet or locally on AM 1620.
Garrett Caldwell hit a two run homer in the ninth, but it wasn't enough as COD defeated MSJC 3-2 on Thursday.
