The MSJC baseball team scored four runs in the top of the first and got a solid pitching performance on Saturday as they defeated Imperial Valley 8-2 to complete a three game sweep of the Arabs.
Gino Campinile, Manny Mendoza, and Zach Fyfe each drove in a run in the first inning to give MSJC all the offense they would need on the day. Starting pitcher Auguie Gallardo gave up a run in the bottom of the first, but then settled in to go eight innings allowing just two runs on eleven hits while striking out eight on his way to the victory.
The Eagles added two runs in the top of the fourth and added single runs in the sixth and ninth to put the game out of reach. Mendoza finished the day with a pair of RBIs as he went 3 for 5 at the plate. Jeremy Schreiber, Markalexander Gamo, and Kyle Mead each had two hits in the victory. Brian Roldan pitched a perfect ninth inning to close out the game striking out one.
The Eagles are now 15-15 overall and 10-8 in Pacific Coast Athletic Conference play. MSJC has this week off, before playing a three game series with Grossmont. The Eagles return home on April 17th for a 2 pm game against the Griffons.
