Eagle Baseball Team Starts Season With Split
The MSJC baseball team opened the 2013 season this weekend by splitting a pair of games with San Diego Mesa.
In the season opener on Friday at Mesa the Eagles couldn't capitalize
on numerous opportunities to score as they left 13 runners on base in a 5-2 loss. Jeff Ricker went 4 for 4 with an RBI and Johnny Armenta drove in the Eagles other run. The Eagles scored early, but fell behind 3-2 in the bottom of the fourth and could not quite recover. Augie Gallardo took the loss on the mound for MSJC going 3 innings and allowing 3 earned runs.
Saturday the Eagles bounced back at home to defeat Mesa 10-2. Garret Veiga got MSJC off to a fast start with a three run double in the bottom of the first inning. The Eagles would build the lead to 9-1 by the end of the third. Chase Phillips added a solo homer in the victory. Joe Fernandez picked up the win on the mound for MSJC going 6 innings.
The Eagles now 1-1 on the season will be on the road for three games this week, starting with a trip to Saddleback on Tuesday. Brian Rodan will get the start on the hill for MSJC on Tuesday. The Eagles will also be at Grossmont on Thursday and Imperial Valley on Saturday. Tuesday and Thursday's game begin at 2 pm and Saturday's first pitch is scheduled at noon.
Jeff Ricker had 5 hits in a two game series with San Diego Mesa over the weekend to help the Eagle baseball team split a pair of games. MSJC 1-1 on the season will be on the road for 3 games this week before returning home on February 12th.
