The MSJC baseball team jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, but had to rally in the ninth to defeat visiting Antelope Valley 6-5.
The Eagles jumped on top early with two first inning runs when Matt Palmer walked with one out and later in the inning scored on Devin Greco's double. Corbin Clinedinst then made it back to back doubles as he hit one of the left field wall to score Greco. The Eagles added a run in the bottom of the fourth to build the lead to 3-0. MSJC added single runs in the sixth and seventh to push the lead to 5-2 through 8. Starting pitcher Dakota Downs threw 8 solid innings before he was replaced by Kurt Sargent. AVC rallied for three runs in the ninth inning to tie the game at 5.
In the bottom of the ninth Palmer walked to lead it off and advanced around to third on two wild pitches. Two batters later Greco hit his third double of the day to score Palmer with the winning run.
Downs finished the day going 8 plus innings allowing just 2 earned runs on 7 hits. He struck out 2 and walked just one. Sargent picked up the win going 1 inning and allowing 1 run on two hits. The Eagles collected 10 hits on the day led by Greco and Clinedinst who both had 3 hits a piece. Adam Balliger added 2 hits and an RBI for MSJC.
This was the Eagles final home game of the season, they will wrap up the year Thursday at Antelope Valley with a doubleheader beginning at noon. MSJC is 15-19 overall and 9-13 in Foothill Conference action.
Sophomore Devin Greco had three doubles and 3 RBIs Tuesday in his final home game for the Eagles. MSJC defeated Antelope Valley 6-5.
