Eagles Fall Short in Baseball Comeback Bid
The MSJC baseball team rallied for four runs in the bottom of the ninth inning, but it wasn't enough as the Eagles fell to conference leader Rio Hondo 6-4 on Tuesday.
Rio Hondo scored two runs in the top of the first inning without the benefit of a hit. The Roadrunners added two more in the top of the fourth and two in the top of the ninth to build the lead to 6-0, before the Eagle offense was able to score.
In the bottom of the ninth MSJC tried to rally as Vince Canales had an RBI single followed by Max Waldroff's 3 run pinch hit homer to cut the lead to 6-4. That would be as close as the Eagles would come however as the next hitter was retired on one pitch flying out to centerfield.
MSJC is now 16-17 overall on the season and 12-10 in Foothill Conference games while Rio Hondo won their 28th straight game and improved to 31-1 overall and a perfect 22-0 in the conference. The Eagles travel to Imperial Valley today for a non conference game before wrapping up the season on Thursday and Friday against Rio Hondo. Thursday's game is at Rio while Friday's season finale will be at home both games start at 2:30 pm.
MSJC baseball players look on from the dugout Tuesday during their Foothill Conference game with Rio Hondo. The Eagles will host Rio again on Friday at 2:30 pm in their final game of the season.
