Eagles Sweep Cerro Coso in Baseball
The Mt. San Jacinto baseball team won three games last week against Cerro Coso. The Eagles won easily on Thursday in Ridgecrest 17-4, then came back on Saturday and won two one run games.
In Thursday's game Drew Madrigal had 5 runs batted in on three hits including a three run homer. Devin Greco also drove in five as the Eagles jumped out to a 16-0 lead after seven innings. Josh Ray and Anthony Smith both had four hits for MSJC. B.J. Salsbury was the winning pitcher for the Eagles going eight innings allowing just two earned runs while striking out 13. Salsbury improved his record to 6-1 on the season.
On Saturday Madrigal took the hill in game one and allowed just one run in a complete game victory. Madrigal struck out 12 in seven innings of work. Garrett Caldwell had two hits for the Eagles who scored both of their runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Jeff Bunch drove in the tying run and then scored the go ahead run on a wild pitch for the 2-1 victory. Madrigal improved his record on the mound to 5-2. In Saturday's second game Jacob Negrete earned his second pitching victory of the season going six innings and allowing just one earned run and striking out 10. After falling behind 1-0 MSJC rallied for two runs in the bottom of the third and four in the fourth to build a 6-1 lead. John Eshleman was 4 for 4 in the game and drove in a run, while Madrigal had two hits and an RBI. Bunch and Anthony Smith also added RBI's. Salsbury came in with two outs in the top of the ninth to earn the save.
In the three game sweep MSJC pitchers combined to strike out 39 Cerro Coso hitters. The Eagles improved to 17-7 overall and 9-3 in Foothill Conference games. The Eagles are back in action this week when they take on Victor Valley. Thursday MSJC will host the Rams at 2 pm and then travel to Victorville for a doubleheader on Saturday.
Drew Madrigal picked up a pitching victory and had a big series hitting as MSJC swept a three game series with Cerro Coso last week.
