Eighth Inning Sinks MSJC Baseball Team

The MSJC baseball team played an even game with Grossmont for 7 and a half innings before the Griffons were able to put 6 runs on the board and take the 8-2 win.

The Eagles got strong starting pitching from Augie Gallardo who went 7 innings allowing 6 hits and just one earned run.  MSJC took the lead in the top of the fourth when Chase Phillips hit a two run homer for the first two runs of the day.  Grossmont tied the game in the bottom half of the 4th and then the game remained 2-2 until the bottom of the 8th.

Gallardo gave way to the bullpen after giving up a lead off hit in the bottom of the 8th.  Grossmont scratched across 6 runs on just two hits in the 8th for the win.  Gallardo took the tough luck loss for the Eagles.  Phillips finished the game going 3 for 4, the homer was his second of the year.

The Eagles are now 1-3 on the season, while Grossmont improved to 4-0.  MSJC returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Imperial Valley for a 12 pm game.  Joe Fernandez will get the start on the mound Saturday.
