MSJC Baseball Team Win Wild One in Barstow

The MSJC baseball team hit five homeruns and pounded out 21 hits and still had to hang on to beat Barstow College Tuesday in a Foothill Conference game in Barstow 21-16.

The Eagles got started quickly with 3 runs in the top of the first inning and one in the top of the second to take a 4-1 lead, before the wind started blowing at the Vikings home field and runs started to coming even faster.  Barstow clawed back ahead 5-4 after four innings and then the Eagles struck for 4 in the top of the 5th and again the Vikings answered with 3 in the bottom half to tie the score at 8 after five innings.

With the score tied at 9 a piece after six innings, the Eagles finally took the lead for good with a 8 run seventh inning which included a two run homer by Vince Canales and RBIs by five other MSJC players in the inning.  The Eagles would hold on down the stretch by adding a pair of runs in both the eighth and ninth.

Jeff Ricker finished the day with 4 hits including a homer and two doubles while driving in three runs.  Dom des Vigne drove in a team high 4 runs.  Markalexander Gamo added two solo homers for MSJC while Steven Salazar also hit a round tripper.  Barstow matched the Eagles power by hitting 5 homeruns of their own.  Hector Flores grabbed the victory on the mound for MSJC pitching the final four innings.

The win was the Eagles second straight and improved their record on the season to 6-9 overall and 2-5 in the Foothill Conference.  Barstow will come to MSJC on Thursday for the second game of the series.  Tuesday's game will start at 2 pm.
