MSJC Wins Final Game; Awaits Play-off Fate
The MSJC baseball team got a complete game victory from starting pitcher Augie Gallardo in their final regular season game of the season and now will await to hear if they are selected for the Southern California Regional.
The Eagles finished the year 19-17 overall and 14-10 in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference, which placed them third in the final standings. The post season pairings will be announced Monday and the Eagles are one of five or six teams battling for the last 4 spots in the tourney.
On Friday Gallardo shut out Southwestern for 8 innings, before finally surrendering one in the 9th on the way to his fourth victory of the year as MSJC won 5-1. Gallardo finished the day going the distance while giving up just 5 hits while striking out one and walking one. The game moved quickly through the first 5 1/2 innings before the Eagles were able to score two in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single by Manny Mendoza and an RBI sacrifice fly by Kyle Mead. Markalexander Gamo put MSJC up 4-0 on a two run double in the bottom of the seventh and the Eagles pushed across their fifth run on a single by Kash Mattson.
The Eagles reached the So. Cal Regional last season before being defeated by Mt. SAC 2-1 in a three game series.
