Offense Leads MSJC to Baseball Victory
The MSJC baseball team got back into Foothill Conference action this week, and got off to a strong start as they beat visiting Antelope Valley 13-1 in the opening game of a three game series.
The Eagles bats came alive from the start as they put up four runs in the bottom of the first, three in the bottom of the second, and added one in the third. MSJC added 5 more in the bottom of the fifth to put the game out of reach. Jeff Ricker, Vince Canales, and Johnny Armenta all had 3 RBIs in the game to lead the way for the Eagles. Ricker finished the day going 4 for 5 with a double, while Armenta was 2 for 5 with a double and Canales went 2 for 3.
Joe Fernandez went the distance on the mound for MSJC allowing just one run and five hits over nine innings of work. Fernandez struck out 3 and walked 3 while improving his record to 4-4 on the season.
The win moved MSJC into fourth place in the Foothill Conference standings and improved their record to 16-12 overall and 9-7 in league games. AVC fell to 12-10 and 7-6. The two teams will meet again on Thursday in Lancaster at 2:30 and will wrap up the series here at MSJC on Saturday with a game at noon.
