Desert Keeps Palms to Pines Trophy

 

College of the Desert opened up the lead in the second half to retain the Palms to Pines Trophy Saturday at Carl Quandt Stadium with a 42-11 win over MSJC.

The Eagles held their own in the first half and went into the locker room down just 14-3. The Roadrunners came out strong in half number two and scored 2 unanswered touchdownsAnthony mackmore in the third quarter to build the lead to 28-3. The Eagles did open the fourth quarter in dramatic fashion when quarterback Collin Wigely connected with Daniel Chamberlain on an 81 yard touchdown pass, and after a two point conversion the lead was cut to 28-11. The Eagles could muster no more points however and Desert added the two final touchdowns leading to the final score.              

Wigely on the afternoon threw for 158 yards completing 13 of 19 attempts. Chamberlain finished the day with 5 receptions for 125 yards. Deshaun Smith led the Eagles ground game with 30 yards on 8 carries. Defensively, Kyle Shaw and Clarence Laster combined for 30 tackles.

The loss drops the Eagles to 0-3 on the season while Desert improved to 3-0. MSJC opens conference play in the Mountain Conference this Saturday when they host San Diego Mesa College. Kick off is set for 1 pm at Carl Quandt Stadium.
