Eagles Beat SBVC in Homecoming Game
The MSJC football team picked up their first victory of the season Saturday when they beat San Bernardino Valley 34-28 in the 2008 Homecoming game.
MSJC got off to a fast start taking the opening kick off and marching down the field in 5 plays to score a touchdown on the first of quarterback Carmen Boyer's 5 TD passes on the afternoon. The first was a one yard strike to Daniel Chamberlain with 12:23 to go in the first quarter. The Eagles never trailed in the game.
Boyer finished the day 17 of 28 for 247 yards to go along with the 5 TD passes. Courtney Pete was the recipient of two of the TD throws. Eight different receivers caught passes for MSJC on the day. Running Back Butch Tuvale ran for over 100 yards for the second straight week as he picked up 105 yards on 26 carries.
Defensively the Eagles got strong performances by a number of players including Clarence Laster who recorded two interceptions. Kyle Shaw, Zack Van Duesen, and Kupa Graycochea all had 10 tackles. Special teams were also solid as punter Zoltan Riazzo averaged 49 yards on his three punts.
With the Eagles up 21-7 at the half the Wolverines were able to come back and tie the game at 21 in the third quarter, but MSJC responded with 13 unanswered points to put the game out of reach.
The win improved the Eagles to 1-6 on the season and 1-3 in Mountain Conference play. MSJC is back in action next week when they travel to LaBard Stadium in Costa Mesa to take on Golden West College. Kick off is set for 6 pm.
