The MSJC football team lost for the second week in a row as they fell to visiting Chaffey College 42-22 Saturday night in a game played at Vista Murrieta High School.
The Eagles fell behind early in the game 14-7, but Chris Robinson took the ensuing kick off back 88 yards for a touchdown and after a two point conversion the Eagles took the lead 15-14. The lead was short lived however as Chaffey scored two more times before the end of the half to go into the locker room with a 28-15 lead.
MSJC again grabbed the momentum early in the second half scoring on a 75 yard pass from Nigel Barksdale to Perris Scoggins with 12:30 to play in the third quarter. With the extra point the Eagles closed to within 28-22. MSJC's offense however could not produce any more points and Chaffey added a touchdown late in the third quarter and tacked one more on midway through the fourth for the 42-22 victory.
Barksdale finished the night 14 of 30 passing for 209 yards and had two touchdowns through the air. Robinson had 5 catches for 77 yards including a touchdown reception. Joseph Henderson was the Eagles top rusher on the night gaining 34 yards on 12 carries. Justin Johnson led the MSJC defense with 8 total tackles in the game, four other Eagles added 7 a piece. Mike Chaparosa and Samiuela Stevens each recorded a sack for the Eagles.
The loss drops MSJC to 0-2 on the season. The Eagles are back in action Saturday when they take on West Los Angeles College at Vista Murrieta. Kick off Saturday is set for 6 pm.
