Eagles Fall in Home Finale
The MSJC football team fell behind early and were unable to recover as they lost to visiting Golden West 49-21 in their final home game of the season.
The Eagles trailed 21-0 before cornerback Danilo Bautista intercepted a Rustlers pass and returned it 90 yards for a touchdown. Golden West got another score late in the first half to head to the locker room with a 28-7 lead. The Eagles pulled to within 14 with just over six minutes to play in the third quarter on a touchdown pass from Carmen Boyer to Esau Bauknight, but that's as close as MSJC would come.
Franex Dort and Tony Austin accounted for most of the Eagles ground game with Dort totaling 57 yards and Austin 42. Carmen Boyer went 12 of 21 passing for 131 yards. Bauknight caught five passes for 28 yards while Courtney Pete had 3 catches for 30 yards. On defense Clarence Laster had a season high 15 tackles and Chad Hansen added 11. Bautista's interception was the only turnover by Golden West.
The loss dropped MSJC to 1-7 on the season and 1-4 in Mountain Conference games. Golden West improved to 4-4 overall and 4-1 in conference. The Eagles return to action next Saturday when they travel to L.A. Harbor for a 6 pm game.
