Eagles Overcome Slow First Half to Stay Unbeaten

The MSJC football team found themselves trailing 9-0 at halftime on Saturday, but rallied back to defeat Chaffey 24-21 in a Mountain Conference game at Rancho Cucamonga.elliott.jpg

Chaffey took the lead early in the game on a 27 yard field goal with just over 8 minutes to play in the first quarter and then added a touchdown with 5:05 to play before half to take the 9-0 lead at the break.  The Eagles would come out of the halftime break with a new energy and scored 24 straight points to take control of the game.

Quarterback Tim Morovick got the Eagles on the board with 9:09 to play in the third quarter on a 10 yard touchdown run and Jamie Lucio added a 38 yard field goal late in the third to send the game to the fourth with MSJC leading 10-9.  Superiorr Reid added two touchdown runs midway through the 4th to push the lead to 24-9.  Reid's runs were from 1 yard and 22 yards out.  The Eagles then held on down the stretch as Chaffey scored two late touchdowns to close the gap.

Reid finished the game with 128 yards rushing on 31 carries and Morovick finished the night going 7 of 15 passing for 88 yards.  Linebacker Dejon Brown had a team high 10 tackles for MSJC while safety Doug Elliott picked off two passes for the Eagle defense.

The win improved MSJC's record to 7-0 overall and 4-0 in the Mountain Conference.  Chaffey fell to 2-5 and 2-2.  The Eagles now are set for a showdown with Southwestern College this coming Saturday in Chula Vista.  MSJC and Southwestern will both enter the game 4-0 in conference play.

 

Doug Elliott had two interceptions on Saturday night to help the MSJC football team to a 24-21 win over Chaffey College in a Mountain Conference game in Rancho Cucamonga.  The win sets up a showdown this Saturday in Chula Vista against Southwestern College.  Southwestern and MSJC are both 4-0 in Mountain Conference play.
