The MSJC football team scored 36 second half points including 22 in the fourth quarter Saturday but it wasn't enough as the Eagles fell to Southwestern 51-49.
The Eagles pulled to within two points with 1:26 to go in the game when Carmen Boyer hooked up with Dado Michel on a 19 yard touchdown pass, and a two point conversion was good on a run by Tony Austin. On the ensuing on side kick the Eagles appeared to had recovered Jameson Schultz's kick but the MSJC player trying to corral it was ruled out of bounds. Southwestern was able to run the clock out after that.
Franex Dort led an explosive Eagle offense who had a season high 615 yards of total offense in the game. Dort set a career high in both rushing attempts and yards as he ran for 226 yards on 38 carries. Boyer threw for 165 yards while Courtney Pete threw for 100 as the Eagles offense moved the ball all day. Esau Bauknight had a big day receiving as he caught 6 balls for 83 yards. Austin ended the afternoon with a pair of touchdowns on the ground to go along with his two point conversion run. Chris Chamberlain added a receiving touchdown and Pete picked up a pair of TDs on a two yard run and a 10 yard catch.
The Eagles who fell to 1-5 on the season and 1-2 in Mountain Conference play will travel to San Bernardino Valley next week for a 6 pm game.
