MSJC Drops Football Opener
The Mt. San Jacinto football team opened the season with a tough loss on Saturday, going down in defeat to Saddleback 52-0 in Mission Viejo.
Saddleback struck early and often building a halftime lead of 38-0. The Eagles who found their footing in the second half played much better, but fell short of punching it into the end zone as the game ended.
Freshman quarterback Travis Kahaleauki came off the bench to complete 9 or 12 passes for 88 yards all in the second half. Sophomore Demitri Scotto of West Valley was the Eagles leading receiver on the day making four catches for 42 yards. Rashad Thornton chipped in with 3 receptions for 34 yards. The Eagle running game was led by freshman Mark Tianahui who finished with 38 yards on 13 carries. The Eagles defense who did not allow any fourth quarter points were led in tackles by linebackers Frank Harris, and Tony Bratford who each made nine stops. Martavious Reeves and Reginald Hairston each came up with an interception for MSJC.
The very tough non conference schedule continues for the Eagles this Saturday September 8th when they host #3 ranked Mt. San Antonio in their 2007 home opener. Kick off is set for 1 pm at Carl Quandt Stadium on the MSJC campus.
