New Era for Eagle Football
The Mt. San Jacinto College Board of Trustees approved the hiring of Casey Mazzotta Thursday night to become a full time instructor of physical education and the new head football coach at MSJC.
Casey becomes the 6th head football coach in the college's history and is excited about getting started. "This is a real growth area," said Mazzotta, "I'm really happy to be here and I think this is a great opportunity." Coach Mazzotta spent the last six years teaching and coaching at Fullerton Community College. The past five seasons he served as the Hornets defensive coordinator. Prior to his stint at Fullerton, Mazzotta was a head high school coach at both Foothill and Bellflower High Schools. In his five seasons in charge of those programs his teams advanced to the CIF play-offs each year. Mazzotta was also a stand out player before becoming a coach. His career after high school included playing at Cerritos College and then Brigham Young University.
"The committee really felt good about Casey," said Associate Dean of Athletics Patrick Springer, "We thought not only would he be a great football coach, but also a great P.E. instructor." Mazzotta will assume his coaching duties immediately and begin teaching when summer school starts June 4th. "I really want to focus on getting a staff put together and starting to recruit our area," said Mazzotta when asked about his first priorities with the football program.
The football season will kick off for the Eagles Labor Day weekend when they travel to Saddleback College for a game on September 1st.
