The MSJC football team couldn't recover Saturday night from eight turnovers as they lost the season opener at College of the Desert 64-29.
The Annual Palms to Pines Trophy game got off to a rocky start for the Eagles as COD jumped out to an early lead when they scored on the game's opening drive. Six MSJC turnovers later the score ballooned to 31-0 at the half. The Roadrunners kept the pressure on early in the second half as they built the lead to 44-0 before the Eagles could hit the scoreboard.
MSJC finally settled in and got their first score of the game on a 92 yard kick off return by Emanuel Hamilton. The Eagles would add three more touchdowns on the night as the offense took hold in the second half. Running back Josh Reed had a 62 yard touchdown run, Kenny Bell caught a 14 yard pass from Tim Morovick for a score, and the Eagles rounded out their scoring on the night with a one yard run by Nigel Barksdale.
On the evening Joseph Henderson led the Eagles ground game with 74 yards on 10 carries while Reed finished with 72 yards on 4 runs. Chris Robinson was MSJC's leading receiver with 6 catches for 85 yards. The Eagles played two quarterbacks on the night; Barksdale finished the night 8 for 18 for 128 yards, while Morovick finished the game 3 of 7 for 56 yards with one touchdown.
The Eagles will return to action Saturday night in their
home opener against Chaffey at Vista Murrieta High School. Kick off is set for 6 pm.
