Chaffey Stops Eagles Winning Streak at Five
The MSJC men's basketball team had their five game winning streak snapped on Wednesday night by Foothill Conference champions Chaffey in Rancho Cucamonga 93-78.
The Eagles started the game strong building a 12-5 lead and containing the up tempo Panthers through the first 8 minutes of the game. Chaffey however was able to force 16 first half turnovers by MSJC to take a 41-36 halftime lead. In the second half Chaffey held a lead that went back and forth between 3 and 10 points over the first 12 minutes of the half, before they hit some crucial 3 point baskets to pull away down the stretch. The Panthers finished the game making 10 of 37 3 point baskets on the night and pulling in 15 offensive rebounds.
Dwayne Benjamin continued his hot streak for the Eagles scoring a game high 26 points to go along with 8 rebounds. Montreal Harris added 16 points for MSJC while Hassante Manning had 8 points and 8 boards.
The loss drops MSJC to 19-9 on the season and 7-6 in Foothill Conference play. Chaffey improved to 22-6 and 11-2. The Eagles will conclude the regular season on Saturday when they travel to Lancaster to take on Antelope Valley. Saturday's game is set to tip off at 3 pm.
Hassante Manning had 8 points and 8 rebounds on Wednesday night, but the MSJC men's basketball team fell short at Chaffey losing 93-78 to the Panthers. The Eagles are back in action Saturday at Antelope Valley in their regular season finale.
