Dakota Downs a two time first team All Conference men's basketball player for MSJC has signed a scholarship to continue his education and athletic career at Concordia University. Downs also pitched two seasons for the Eagles baseball team and will play both at Concordia.
In basketball this past season Downs helped guide the Eagles to an Elite Eight State Tournament appearance and was the team's leading scorer and leading rebounder on the season. He averaged 16.3 points and 9.9 rebounds a game as a sophomore, during his freshman year Downs scored 10.7 points and grabbed 7.4 rebounds per contest.
As a starting pitcher on the baseball team Downs had a career record of 7-2 with 33 strike outs to just 15 walks. His career ERA was 2.23. "Being at MSJC was a great experience for me," said Downs "I grew as a person and elevated my game in both basketball and baseball from the high school level to the college level." "I want to thank everybody at MSJC for helping me get this scholarship."
Concordia University is located in Irvine and posses a highly accomplished athletic program. The men's basketball team advanced to the National Quarter-Finals this past season finishing with a record of 32-4, while the baseball team at 38-18 has qualified for the NAIA World Series being held this week. "I really liked the coaches at Concordia and being able to continue to play both sports was a huge plus for me," said Downs.
Downs is the third member of the MSJC basketball team to sign this Spring joining teammates Eric Lawton (Arkansas-Little Rock) and Zach Ngawaka (BYU-Hawaii). Downs is a native of Hemet and a graduate of Hemet West Valley High School.
