The MSJC men's basketball team improved to 5-2 on the season Saturday night as they defeated visiting San Diego City College 88-80 in the Eagles home opener.
Five Eagles scored in double figures as MSJC led basically start to finish in front of a raucous home crowd at the Eagles gym.
Dakota Downs was MSJC's top scorer with 20 points he also pulled in a team high 14 rebounds. Eric Lawton added 15 points in the win for the Eagles, while Zach Ngawaka had 11 and Jaree Crawford and Jammall Clark scored 10 a piece.
MSJC used a fast paced offense to build a 42-34 lead at halftime and pushed the lead to as much as 14 in the second half. The Eagles used some key baskets from Downs and Crawford in the second half to hold off the Knights who rallied late in the game. MSJC took care of the ball very well on the night committing just 12 turnovers in the game.
The Eagles will return to action on Friday when they travel to San Marcos to play in the Palomar Thanksgiving Tournament. MSJC kicks off the tournament with a 1 pm game against Miramar.
