Eagle Men Win Palomar Tournament

The MSJC men's basketball team won three straight games over the weekend to captupalomarchamps.jpgre the championship of the Palomar Thanksgiving Tournament.  It is the second straight year the Eagles have won the tournament.

The Eagles started the tournament on Friday with an 80-72 overtime victory against Miramar College.  Josh Gouch had 19 points leading four MSJC players in double figures.  Taylor Bell added 18 points, while Montreal Harris added 16 and Anthony Dees had 14.

In the semi-finals the Eagles avenged a loss from earlier in the season when they defeated Southwestern 78-58.  Gouch again led the Eagles

in scoring with 23, while Harris added 19 and Dees 15.

In the championship game Sunday MSJC jumped out to a 15 point lead and cruised to an 85-65 victory over the state's sixth ranked team Yuba College.  Five Eagles led a balanced scoring attack led by Bell's 18 points.  Harris added 17 points and 7 rebounds, Dees had 14 points and 5 assists, while Gouch added 13.  D'Anthony Peterson also reached double digits with 11 points.

Gouch was named the MVP of the tournament and Harris joined him on the all tournament team.  The Eagles are now 5-2 on the season.  MSJC is back in action on Friday when they travel to the Antelope Valley Tournament in Lancaster.  The Eagles open the tournament at 1 pm against Mira Costa College.

 

MSJC captured the championship at the Palomar Thanksgiving Tournament winning three straight games.  It is the Eagles second straight title at Palomar.
