Eagles Split a Pair of Games at SD CIty Tourney
The MSJC men's basketball team bounced back from an improbable loss on Saturday to win on Sunday and take home third place in the Knights Invitational at San Diego City College.
Saturday the Eagles controlled the game for 38 minutes against Citrus, the top ranked team in Southern California, before falling in heartbreaking fashion in overtime 89-86. MSJC led most of the way and had an 8 point lead with under a minute to play in regulation. The Owls were able to hit four three point baskets down the stretch including a double pump bank shot with 2 seconds remaining to force overtime. In a very competitive overtime period the Owls came out on top. Josh Gouch and Anthony Dees led the Eagle offense with 20 points a piece while Montreal Harris and Alex Wilson also reached double figures with 19 and 15 points. Gouch ended the game with a double double as he also pulled in a game high 11 boards.
On Sunday the Eagles rebounded to defeat Grossmont College 64-52 in the third place game of the tournament. Dees had 15 points to lead the Eagles and Jamar Cannon added 14 points and 7 rebounds. For their efforts in the tournament both Gouch and Harris were named to the All Tournament team. The Eagles opening round game of this tournament was played on November 8th when they defeated Palomar.
The Eagles are now 2-2 on the season and return to action on Friday at the Palomar Holiday Tournament. They open play with a game against Mira Costa.
