Eagles Crush Mesa in Home Opener

The MSJC men's basketball team started quickly and never looked back Saturday night as they cruised to a 102-43 victory over visiting San Diego Mesa College.

The Eagles who shot 50% for the evening opened up a 30 point half time lead behind the hot shooting of Eric Lawton and Shenon Johannes the pair combined for 27 first half points. MSJC also had a decided advantage on the boards as they out rebounded Mesa 56-32 on the night.

Twelve of the 13 players that played in the game for MSJC had at least 2 points. Johannes ended up leading the Eagles in scoring with 17 while Lawton finished the night with 16. Dakota Downs and Tykie Harris also reached double figures with 12 and 10 respectively. Johannes also collected 6 assists.

The win improved MSJC's record to 7-3 on the year. The Eagles will be back in action Tuesday December 8th when they take on Cerritos in the first round of the Wells Fargo Holiday Tournament at Riverside. Game time on Tuesday is 5 pm at RCC.
