The MSJC men's basketball team beat Antelope Valley Saturday to move into sole possession of first place in the Foothill Conference with two games remaining.
The 78-75 overtime victory was the Eagles sixth straight. Marc Wilson led the charge for MSJC with 21 points and 5 rebounds. Point guard Raymond Williams was also impressive for the second straight game scoring 15 points and grabbing six rebounds. Lee Stephens and Tim Island also reached double figures for the Eagles with 14 and 13 points.
The Eagles took control of the game early leading to a halftime advantage of 36-19, but AVC made a valiant comeback in the second half to force overtime. At the end of regulation MSJC had a chance to win when Mark Williams barley missed an open three point attempt, and Island got an offensive rebound, but couldn't get the follow to go as the horn sounded.
In overtime the Marauders jumped ahead by 4, but this time it was the Eagles who stormed back to take the lead and force AVC into a desperation three point attempt at the buzzer.
The victory moved the Eagles to 26-4 overall and 10-2 in Foothill Conference action while Antelope fell to 9-3 in conference and 23-8 for the season.
