Eagles Find Their Stride, Beat COD in Men's Basketball
The MSJC men's basketball team looked to be back in early season form on Wednesday night as they jumped ahead early and pulled away for an easy 79-48 Foothill Conference win over visiting College of the Desert.
The Eagles jumped ahead in the first three minutes of the game and never looked back as they were able to use a balanced scoring attack and an advantage in rebounding to build a 38-24 halftime lead. In the second half the Eagles were abled to push the lead above 20 in the first 4 minutes and slowly pulled away from there for their second straight victory.
Dwayne Benjamin led four Eagle players in double figures with a game high 23 points. Benjamin also grabbed 7 rebounds and had 4 steals and 2 blocks in the victory. Mylin Jordan came off the bench to add 17 points for the Eagles. Dajuan Smith also showed off the Eagles depth as he came off the bench to add 12 points and he sparked the MSJC running game passing out 6 assists all in the first half. Sophomore All Stater Montreal Harris just missed a double double with 10 points and 8 rebounds despite playing just 23 minutes do to foul trouble.
The win improved MSJC to 16-8 overall and 4-5 in conference play. The Eagles will travel to Whittier on Saturday to take on Rio Hondo College at 3 pm, before returning home next week for home games on Wednesday and Saturday.
