Eagles Lose Tough One in Overtime

The MSJC men's basketball team lost in dramatic fashion Friday night as they fell to visiting San Bernardino Valley 104-100 in overtime.Large crowd for SBVC game

The Eagles lost despite five players reaching double figures led by Jeffrey West who had 24 points and 10 rebounds. D'Andre Williams added 22 points and 3 assists. Dakota Downs and Eric Lawton also reached double digits with 13 and 10 respectively. Dominic Tiger-Cortes added 12 including 9 in the first half off the bench.

MSJC held a three point lead at halftime sparked by Tiger-Cortes' three 3 point baskets. In the second half the Eagles were able to build the lead to 10 on two separate occasions but the 4th ranked Wolverines battled back to send it into overtime with the score tied 81 all at the end of regulation. In the overtime period both teams took several trips to the foul line as the teams combined to take 76 free throws in the game. SBVC made their shots down the stretch to secure the four point victory.

The loss dropped the Eagles to 11-6 on the season and 1-1 in Foothill Conference play while the Wolverines improved to 17-2 and 2-0. MSJC is back in action Wednesday when they travel to Palm Desert to take on College of the Desert at 7 pm. The Eagles return home on Friday January 15th when they host Rio Hondo in the second game of a men's and women's double header. Women's game scheduled at 5 pm with the men to follow at 7 pm.
