Eagles Open With Big Win in Basketball
The MSJC men's basketball team opened the season with an easy win over Grossmont 81-50 in the first round of the College of the Desert Frank Garcia Classic in Palm Desert Thursday.
The Eagles started a little slow in the season opener, but were hitting on all cylinders by the second half as they stretched out a 10 point halftime lead by outscoring the Griffons 40-19 in the second half. MSJC used a balanced scoring attack led by Dwayne Benjamin and Montreal Harris who each had 12 points in the victory. Hassante Manning and Mylin Jordan also reached double figures with 10 points a piece.
Thirteen of the Eagles 15 players who played in the game scored at least 1 point. The Eagles out rebounded Grossmont 38-32 and shot 47% from the field. MSJC who is ranked #4 in the state in the pre-season rankings will play Palomar today in the semi-finals of the tournament. Tonight's game is set to begin at 5 pm at Wright Gymnasium on the College of the Desert Campus.
