The MSJC men's basketball team won two of three for the second straight weekend as they captured third place in the San Diego City Knights Invitational at Sand Diego City College.
The Eagles started the tournament with a win Friday over Palomar College 85-79. MSJC used great balance as four players tied with a team high 14 points. Dakota Downs, John Pressley, Eric Lawton, and Zach Ngawaka all had 14 in the win. Downs also pulled in a team high 10 rebounds while Lawton passed out 4 assists.
MSJC faced #3 ranked Citrus Saturday in the tournament's semi-finals , but despite shooting nearly 50% from the field came up on the short end of a 92-86 score. Downs led the way offensively for the Eagles with 28 points while Pressley and Lawton both added 11.
The Eagles rebounded on Sunday to beat Porterville College for the second time this season, this time by a score of 93-85. Balance was again the key for MSJC as Pressley scored a game high 22 points while Downs added 21, Jammall Clark had 17 to go along with 9 rebounds and Lawton hit double figures for the third straight day with 12.
Downs and Pressley were rewarded for their play over the weekend by being named to the All Tournament Team. The Eagles now stand at 4-2 on the season. MSJC will have their home opener this Saturday November 20th when they host San Diego City College. Game time for Saturday is set at 7pm.
