Eagles Win 2 of 3 at Gilmore Classic
The Mt. San Jacinto men's basketball team won two of three games this past weekend in the Roy Gilmore Classic at Ventura College. The Eagles finished second, while improving their record to 14-2 on the season.
The Eagles began the tournament with a 81-65 victory over Allan Hancock College on Friday behind 26 points from sophomore guard Tim Island. In Saturday's semi-final Lee Stephens made the game winning shot in a 60-57 victory over Fullerton. Going into Saturday's game Fullerton was the only team to have beaten the Eagles on the season.
In Sunday's final against host Ventura College the Eagles came up short 91-86 despite 20 points from Mark Williams and 16 from Dejuan Flowers. Island was named to the all tournament team for MSJC, it was the second straight tournament he has earned that honor.
The Eagles are now off until December 28th when they host Hemet Valley Kiwanis Tournament. MSJC will open play against Cuyamaca College at 7 pm on the 28th, Long Beach and L.A. Valley start the action at 5 pm.
