Eagles Win Fourth Straight, Beat RCC

The MSJC men's basketball team was able to close strong on Saturday night as they won their fourth straight game by defeating visiting Riverside City College 70-58 in a non conference contest.vonvsrcc.jpg

The Eagles struggled for offense early and trailed by 7 at the half 35-28.  The Tigers pushed the lead to 10 on their first possession of the second half , but that would be as big a lead as RCC would have all night.  The Eagles slowly chipped away at the lead, until a 9-0 run with just over 7 minutes left to play in the game gave MSJC the lead for good.  Strong defense and timely shooting by Danny Hopkins and Levon Harper helped the Eagles ease their way into the lead.  MSJC slowly pulled away in the final 6 minutes for the win.

Dwayne Benjamin struggled shooting from the field, but got to the free throw line enough to lead the Eagles in scoring with 19, while Harper added 11 and Patric Bowens recorded a double double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.  Hopkins finished the night with 9 points off the bench.

The win improved the Eagles record to 10-3 on the season.  MSJC will be back in action on Wednesday January 8th at 7 pm when the host Rio Hondo College in their final tune up for Pacific Coast Athletic Conference play.  The Eagles start PCAC play on Friday January 10th when they travel to Palomar.
