Eagles Win Home Opener Against Moorpark
The MSJC men's basketball team won their 11th game of the season on Saturday as they defeated visiting Moorpark College 87-83 in their first home game of the season.
The Eagles built a first half lead of 44-33 behind the scoring punch of Mylin Jordan, who came off the bench to score 13 of his team high 18 points in the first half. The Eagles built the lead to as much as 13 early in the second half, but the Raiders kept it close by shooting 29 for 61 on the night including 8 for 21 shooting from beyond the three point arc.
MSJC was however able to hold Moorpark off down the stretch shooting well in their own right going 33 for 63 from the field and 10 for 21 on three point attempts. Three other Eagles reached double figures including Dwayne Benjamin who had a double double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Sam Natt and Montreal Harris chipped in with 11 points a piece in the victory.
The win improved MSJC's season record to 11-3 while Moorpark fell to 5-8. The Eagles currently ranked #10 in the state and #5 in Southern California will be back in action on Thursday January 3rd when they host Southwestern College at 7 pm. The Eagles kick off Foothill Conference play on Saturday January 5th when they play Victor Valley at home beginning at 3 pm.
