Eagles Win Opener at RCC Tourney

The MSJC men's basketball team opened up a big halftime lead and cruised to a 76-58 victory over Long Beach City College Tuesday afternoon in the first round of the Wells Fargo Holiday Tournament in Riverside.

The Eagles took command of the game early with nine different players scoring in the first half led by Melvin Goins 9 points. MSJC built the lead to 38-20 by the time the half ended. The second half was more of the same as the Eagles built the lead to as much as 23 points before eventually winning by 18.

Goins ended the afternoon with 21 points and 6 assists, while Mark Williams chipped in with 12 points and 4 assists. Thirteen different Eagles scored in the game. Will Ceasar and Jeffrey West both pulled down 8 rebounds to lead MSJC in that category.

The victory improved the Eagles record to 7-4 on the season. MSJC plays in the quarterfinals of the Riverside Tournament at 5 pm on Thursday.
