Eagles Win Two of Three at Palomar Tournament
The MSJC men's basketball team won two of three this past weekend at the Palomar Thanksgiving Tournament, defeating L.A. Trade Tech and Saddleback while dropping a game to Mt. San Antonio.
The Eagles picked up an 89-80 victory on Friday over Trade Tech behind a 24 point effort from Melvin Goins. Mark Williams added 20 while Curtis Bush had a double double with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Jeffrey West also was strong with 10 points and 13 rebounds.
In Saturday's semi-final the Eagles fell in a close game with Mt. Sac 63-58. The Eagles had chances to win despite not making a three point shot in the entire game. MSJC finished the evening 0-14 from beyond the arc. Goins once again led the way on offense scoring 18 points while Bush added 10 and West 9.
The Eagles rebounded on Sunday to defeat Saddleback 77-61 and capture third place in the tournament. This time it was Williams who led the way with 20 points for the Eagles including five three point baskets. Goins dished out 9 assists in the victory. Goins was rewarded for his solid weekend by being named to the All Tournament Team.
The Eagles who now stand at 5-4 on the season are back in action Tuesday December 2nd when they travel to Mira Costa for a 7 pm game.
