The MSJC men's basketball team improved their record to 8-1 on the season by winning two of three games this weekend in San Marcos at the Palomar Thanksgiving Tournament.
The Eagles got off to a rough start on Friday afternoon as they struggled shooting, making just 18 of 55 shots in their first loss of the season. MSJC fell to Miramar 62-52. Sam Natt managed a team high 12 points on the day followed by Dwayne Benjamin's 10.
The Eagles bounced back on Saturday as they defeated Los Angeles Trade Tech 68-64. Hassante Manning led a balanced MSJC offensive attack with 14 points. Benjamin added a double double with 11 points and 10 boards, while Montreal Harris chipped in with 11 points and Dajuan Smith reached double figures with 10.
The MSJC offense found their rhythm on Sunday as they jumped out to a 58-36 halftime lead and cruised home with a 99-78 win over Southwestern. Harris had a dominate game for the Eagles with 29 points on 11 of 13 shooting from the field and 5 for 5 shooting from the foul line. Benjamin made it three straight games in double figures on the weekend with 19, while Mylin Jordan came off the bench to add 12.
MSJC captured the consolation championship of the tournament and for his efforts Manning was named to the All Tournament Team. The 8-1 Eagles will be back in action next Wednesday December 5th when they begin play in the Riverside Holiday Tournament. MSJC's first game at the RCC Tournament will be against LA Pierce at 7 pm.
