Goins Named MVP; Four Others Honored
Melvin Goins of the MSJC men's basketball team was named the Foothill Conference's Most Valuable Player it was announced Tuesday. Goins a 5'10" sophomore from San Diego finished the conference season averaging 18.2 points and 5.8 assists per game. Goins played his freshman season at Ball State University where he was a member of the all newcomer team in the Mid American Conference.
Sophomore Mark Williams and Freshman Jeffrey West both joined Goins as First Team All Conference selections. Williams a 5'10" sophomore out of Glasgow, Delaware has been a two year starter for the Eagles and was MSJC's second leading scorer in conference games at 12.8 points per game. West is a 6'6" freshman from Perris High School. West averaged 10.4 points and 7.3 rebounds during Foothill Conference competition.
Curtis Bush a 6'2" sophomore from San Clemente and Terrance Williams a 6'4" freshman from Newark, Delaware both were named Honorable Mention all conference. Bush averaged a team high 9.2 rebounds while Williams brought down 8.3 boards per contest.
The Eagles finished the regular season at 22-10 overall and 11-3 in Foothill Conference play one game behind San Bernardino Valley. The Eagles earned the #5 seed in the Southern California Regionals and will host L.A. City College on Friday night at 7 pm.
Melvin Goins (top), Jeffrey West (middle), and Mark Williams (bottom) were all named First Team Alll Foothill Conference. Goins was tabbed as the league's MVP.
