MSJC Men Win Opener at RCC Tourney
The MSJC men's basketball team won against #3 ranked Los Angeles Pierce College 78-66 on Wednesday in the opening round of the Riverside City College Holiday Tournament.
The Eagles got off to a quick start with a thunderous dunk by Dwayne Benjamin and a three point basket by D'Anthony Peterson to grab a 5-0 lead. The game evened out quickly with 8 ties and 4 lead changes in the first half before MSJC rallied to take a 41-33 halftime lead.
The Eagles never relinquished the lead in the second half and extended the lead to as much 11 with just under 5 minutes to go and then closed the game out by making free throws down the stretch. Benjamin and Hassante Manning both recorded double doubles for MSJC with Benjamin finishing the game with 26 points and 10 rebounds while Manning had 17 points and a team high 12 boards. Montreal Harris just missed a double double with 8 points and 9 rebounds.
The Eagles ranked #6 in Southern California improved to 9-1 on the season while Pierce dropped to 8-3. MSJC will play in the winner's bracket quarter-final today at 3pm against Santa Rosa Junior College.
