Men's Basketball Opens Season Winning 2 of 3
The MSJC men's basketball team opened the season over the weekend in Ventura winning two of three games and earning the consolation championship of the We Play Hard Tournament.
The Eagles who entered the season as the state's #1 ranked team lost their opener to former Foothill Conference foe Antelope Valley 79-67 on Thursday. MSJC struggled with turnovers in the loss as they combined to turn the ball over 30 times in the season opener. Dajuan Smith led the Eagle offense with 19 points, Dwayne Benjamin added 15 and Mark Ware had 6 points and 6 rebounds.
MSJC bounced back on Friday as they led start to finish in a 71-62 win over Moorpark. In Friday's game Benjamin scored a game high 27 points while Smith added 12 and Patric Bowens came off the bench to score 10. The Eagles made it two in a row on Saturday as they defeated Palomar 84-66. Benjamin had 23 points and 9 rebounds to lead the way for MSJC, Smith hit double figures again as well with 18 and Blake O'Donnell had 12 points.
Benjamin was named to the All Tournament team for his efforts through out the weekend. MSJC will be back in action this weekend when they take part in the San Diego City Tournament. The Eagles will begin play in the SDCC event on Friday when they take on El Camino at 3 pm.
Dwayne Benjamin helped the MSJC men's basketball to two wins over the weekend in Ventura. For his efforts he was named to the All Tournament team at the We Play Hard Tournament.
