Men's Hoops See 17 Game Winning Streak Snapped

The MSJC men's basketball team, who had already clinched a share of the PCAC North Division title, saw their 17 game winning streak stopped on Friday night as they lost at Grossmont 74-67.trashcansam.jpg

The Eagles fell behind in the first half and could never quite push their way back into the lead despite getting to within two points three times in the final five minutes.  MSJC fell behind by 15 points early in the game and were able to fight back to 40-33 at the half.  The Eagles never had the lead in the game.

Sam Williams led the MSJC offense on the night with 19 points he also pulled in 8 rebounds.  Dwayne Benjamin had 13 points and 7 rebounds while Levon Harper had 13 and 6 boards.  Dajuan Smith also hit double figures in scoring with 11.  Grossmont out shot the Eagles on the night going an impressive 19 for 40 from the field and an even more impressive 12 or 25 from beyond the three point arc.

The loss put MSJC in a tie with Grossmont for the PCAC title as both finished conference play at 7-1.  The Eagles finished the regular season at 23-4 overall while the Griffons finished at 18-8.

The play-off pairings will be announced Monday afternoon with the Eagles expected to have a home game to open up the post season on either Friday or Saturday.
