Men Open at Home; Women on the Road in Play-Offs
The MSJC men's and women's basketball teams found out their play-off fates on Monday. The men's team will host L.A. City College Friday night at 7 pm in the Southern California Regional Semi-Final while the women travel to College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita the same night.
The men's team who finished the season at 22-10 earned the #5 seed in So. Cal. L.A. City comes into the game as the South Coast North Conference champion with an overall record of 22-8. The Cubs come into the game as the #12 seed in the Regional Tournament. The Eagles are in the same bracket as #4 seed San Diego City College. Four other Foothill Conference teams earned a play-off berth on the men's side including; San Bernardino Valley, Victor Valley, Antelope Valley, and Chaffey.
The Lady Eagles finished the season 23-8 overall and received the #10 seed in the Southern California Regional. MSJC will take on Canyons who has an identical 23-8 record and were champions of the Western States South Conference. Like the men five teams from the Foothill Conference also qualified for the women's regional. Antelope Valley, San Bernardino, Rio Hondo, and Chaffey all qualified for the field of 18 along with MSJC.
The men's and women's teams would both have to win two games to qualify for the Elite Eight State Championships in Fresno to be held March 12-15.
