Men's Hoops Take Two of Three Opening Weekend

The MSJC men's basketball team opened the season this past weekend in the City College of San Francisco Tip-off Tournament by winning two of three games.

The Eagles opened the tournament on Friday with a win over Porterville College 85-79. In that game D.J. Wright made a resounding debut with 35 points and 12 rebounds. Shenon Johannes scored 20 as MSJC picked up their first win of the season. In Saturday's semi-final Johannes led the way scoring 23 in a 71-62 victory over Santa Rosa. Wright added 11 and 9 rebounds while Eric Lawton scored 10. Dakota Downs was also solid in the victory with 8 points and 6 rebounds.

Sunday's final saw the Eagles take on defending Foothill Conference champion San Bernardino Valley with MSJC falling 89-69. In a game that was much closer than the final score indicated Wright had 19 points and 8 rebounds while Lawton and Jammall Clark both added 10 points a piece. Lawton and Johannes both had 4 assists in the losing effort.

Standing at 2-1 on the season the Eagles are back in action this weekend (Nov. 13-15) when they travel to the San Diego City Tournament.
