Eagles Beat No. 3 Ventura and Cerritos in Tennis

The MSJC Men's Tennis Team made history this past Saturday afternoon defeating preseason ITA ranked #3 Ventura College in a nail biting 5-4 victory. The young eagles were ready for the challenge and accomplished something which in more recent years has been nearly impossible by defeating the Pirates on their home courts.tennisatventura.jpg

Once again sophomore sensation Mensford Owusu led the young and talented eagle squad into battle coming away with a very hard fought 6-3 6-3 singles win. Luis Jaimes, Alex Miehle and Marcio Dal Pont were also able to score straight set wins giving the eagles 4 points. Laszlo Irme and Godi Enock fought hard but were unable to pull out their singles matches. Leading 4-2 the eagles were in need of 1 point to secure the win and after some intense doubles play the team of Owusu and Jaimes defeated their opponents 8-5 and gave MSJC their 1st ever win over Ventura College! The eagles will now prepare for a non-conference home match this Tuesday against Orange Coast College. Match time is set for 2pm at the tennis courts on the San Jacinto Campus, please come out and show your support for this very talented Eagle team!

The MSJC Men's tennis team traveled to Cerritos College for a non-conference dual team match last Thursday and completely dominated the host falcons scoring a 9-0 victory. Mensford Owusu led the eagles at the #1 position in the singles rotation coming away with an easy 6-1 6-0 win and setting the tempo for the rest of the afternoon as the eagles did not give up a set in singles and also swept all 3 doubles matches. The energy level must remain high as the young team travels to state tennis powerhouse Ventura College on Saturday for another non-conference dual team match.
