MSJC men's tennis players Vitor Galvao and Bruno Campos teamed up over the weekend to win the men's doubles title at the 2014 Pacific Coast Athletic Conference Championships in Chula Vista.
Galvao and Campos capped their run through the PCAC bracket with a win over Arthur Castro and David Bensoussan of College of the Desert in the championship match. The win qualifies the pair for a spot in the state tournament at Ojai April 23rd-27th. The Eagles #2 and #3 doubles teams also advanced to the tournament in Ojai with a strong showing at the PCAC Finals. Leo Matarazzo and Gabe da Costa qualified as a team as did Thibaoud Garces and Thiago Trigo.
In singles action Galvao earned his way to the championship match before losing to Gustavo Castro of Grossmont. Galvao along with Campos, Garces, da Costa, and Matarazzo all qualified for the singles tournament in Ojai.
For his strong season Galvao was awarded the PCAC Player of the Year Award, while Garces earned all conference recognition in singles and Campos and Galvao were first team selections in doubles.
The Eagles are also still alive in the team competition for the state championships after defeating Glendale last week 5-3 to advance to the Southern California Regional Semi-Finals. MSJC travels to top seeded Irvine Valley on Tuesday April 15th to take on the Lasers.
Vitor Galvao was named the Pacific Coast Conference Player of the Year in men's tennis, as he teamed with Bruno Campos to capture the doubles conference title and made it to the finals in singles before losing a close match. The Eagles have several players who advanced to the state tournament in Ojai and are still alive in the team competition. MSJC plays at Irvine Valley tomorrow in a Southern California Regional Semi-Final Match.
