Men's Doubles Team Reaches State Quarter-Finals
The MSJC tennis season came to an end this past weekend up north at the Sierra Racket Club in Fresno. James Bragg and Murilo Valadares, the two remaining eagles, represented Mt. San Jacinto College at the State Individual Tournament in the doubles draw. Seeded #7 Bragg and Valadares were placed in the draw against the #2 team from north represented by Santa Rosa College. Playing together as they had all season with an incredible amount of high energy and determination the Eagle duo overpowered their opponents with their big serves and excellent net play taking the first round match by the score of 6-2 6-4. This win put Bragg and Valadares into the Quarterfinals and up against a familiar foe, College of the Desert. Going into the match with the same amount of energy and playing on center court the Eagle duo started the match out well holding their own against the #1 doubles team from COD. Unfortunately, Rodrigo Schaefer (Cod's #1 singles and doubles player) picked up his game and played at a level which would eventually take him to the state singles final draw and doubles semi-final. The eagles dropped the 1st set 6-2 and fought hard but were unable to match the momentum from the COD team and eventually fell in the second set by the same score and the match along with the MSJC season came to and end. Nevertheless, it was another very successful campaign for the MSJC Mens Tennis Program which ended on a high note having qualified for the state tournament for the 4th year in a row!
